What we are, and what we do!
Summer Movies in the Park, a series of free outdoor movie events in park facilities, is a collaboration between the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, the Cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, Oceanside, Poway, Vista, and the USS Midway Museum. Each event provides opportunities to gather as a community and build sense of community and offers residents free opportunities to enjoy themselves outdoors in the summer evenings.

Created in response to a 2005 recreation needs assessment, these events strengthen the sense of community among residents and improve the perception of parks as safe and desirable places to recreate. SMIP started modestly in 2007 with 11 outdoor movies in 4 communities within San Diego County. The 2016 series proved to be the most successful summer to date with 123 outdoor movie events attracting 40,000 participants in 44 communities county-wide.
Summer Movies in the Park is the perfect way for friends and families to spend a night under the stars while exploring the beauty and diversity of parks and recreation facilities throughout San Diego County. Bring a picnic, grab a blanket and come relax with us.
